Hello everyone, some time ago I wrote to ask about Mother and Baby Homes in Guildford as I was looking for a specific person whose baby was adopted. Ive since found out the child was born at St Lukes ( Guildford) in 1959, but Mum's address is listed on the BC as 12 Nightingale Rd, which is the Guildford Moral Welfare Girls’ Home (aka Hope Lodge). I was wondering in anyone has any knowledge of this place? I suspect the following: Baby was born at St Lukes as Mother was still married ( although estranged) and Mum and child then moved to Hope Lodge, also referred to as a home for 'abandoned children'. The BC lists the child as 'adopted' so perhaps Mum went there to coalesce and as a stepping stone to adoption?
It would be wonderful to hear any thoughts on members who are far more knowledgeable than me.
