Good Morning from Australia, I'm helping a friend born in Crumpsall Hospital in 1937 to find out who her parents were. Carol, born Beatrice Taylor, was given a birth certificate in 1994 saying her birth mother was Elizabeth Ellen Taylor. Carol had researched and made contact with family who were supposedly related to her but when doing her DNA they now know they aren't related. When contacting the Manchester Archives in 1994 they gave her a sheet of information from the Styal Homes in Cheshire where she lived until age 9 when she was fostered by an older couple. Last year she once again we contacted the archives and was given 2 pages of information and nothing matched with the 1994 correspondence. Something is wrong !!
Carol also has 2 birth dates originallyb she celebrated her birth on 16th Sept and then the birth certificate said 26th September. We are wondering if she became mixed up at the home or hospital. Her DNA links her to a Turner/Redfern family. Incidentally the original Elizabeth Ellen Taylor married a Redfearn but as I said they are not DNA related and do not relate to this other Redfern family. Where do we go from here, she has a huge DNA tree of over 1500 people but her closest match is a 1/2 2-3rd cousin. A couple of DNA angels and a professional researcher for a TV show has looked over her problem and is stumped.
Another thing is in the 1939 register Carol shows up in "Calderstones Hospital for the Mentally deficient" and is not blacked out and has her married name in green. Not sure why they presumed she'd passed ?
Any help with where to go would be greatly appreciated
Kind regards
Belinda and Carol
